Momentum in edge-to-cloud innovation continues to build as enterprises push for more control over AI workloads.
On Nov. 4, Aptiv-owned intelligent-edge software provider Wind River announced a new agreement with ServiceNow that will let customers run the ServiceNow AI Platform in their own data centers through the Wind River Cloud Platform.
The solution enables enterprises to deploy, scale, upgrade, and manage ServiceNow applications on-premises while enhancing privacy, data governance, and operational control across a wide range of industries and use cases.
According to Sandeep Modhvadia, chief product officer at Wind River, as enterprises modernize infrastructure to meet rising demands for data control, compliance, and operational agility, the convergence of information technology and operational technology with a sovereign private cloud is no longer optional — it is essential.
Proven at scale with greater than six-nines availability (99.9999%), the gold standard for production-grade reliability, Cloud Platform provides the private-cloud foundation needed for enterprise and mission-critical workloads. In addition to hosting the ServiceNow AI Platform, Cloud Platform supports a wide range of enterprise workloads on the same infrastructure, ensuring performance, security, and operational efficiency.
"This solution from Wind River and ServiceNow empowers organizations to unify digital workflows with real-time operations while maintaining full control over data and infrastructure in regulated environments," Modhvadia told LinuxInsider.
Why This Matters for Enterprise Control
Organizations can meet data-locality, compliance, and regulatory requirements without compromise, while enabling advanced use cases such as IT/OT convergence and hybrid cloud deployments. Enabling enterprises to run AI-powered workloads in secure, on-premises environments, Cloud Platform integrated with ServiceNow delivers the benefits of a private cloud without compromising control, performance, or compliance.
“As enterprises embrace the intelligent era, cybersecurity and resilience must be embedded into every layer of the business,” said Michael Park, SVP, Global Partnerships and Channels at ServiceNow.
Wind River Cloud Platform, when integrated with the ServiceNow AI Platform, enables customers to proactively manage risk, streamline compliance workflows, and safeguard their operations at scale, he added. Together, both companies are putting AI to work to help organizations build secure, resilient digital ecosystems that scale with trust.
Built for scale and resilience, it enables enterprises to deploy and manage complex cloud architectures in demanding environments. It includes a production-grade, distributed Kubernetes foundation for container and VM workloads, along with integrated orchestration, automation, and analytics tools that streamline operations and accelerate delivery.
Private Cloud Foundation for Modern Apps
According to Modhvadia, the platform enables enterprise IT organizations and telecommunications operators to deploy, orchestrate, and manage virtualized and containerized workloads with ultra-low latency, high availability, and full lifecycle automation. He noted that it provides the software infrastructure to deliver ultra-low latency and high availability for the deployment of a virtualized 5G RAN for Verizon.
Based on the open source StarlingX project, Cloud Platform provides a Kubernetes- and container-based distributed cloud architecture for the development, deployment, operation, and servicing of distributed edge networks at scale. It addresses service providers’ complex challenge of deploying and managing cloud-native infrastructure for core-to-edge distributed cloud networks while delivering or exceeding traditional RAN performance in a vRAN/Open RAN deployment.
"Organizations seeking an alternative to build and manage their on-premises private cloud environments are a good candidate for the new solution," Modhvadia said.
The solution helps organizations meet sovereignty requirements, reduce latency, and maintain operational resilience in regulated environments. Enhancing operational intelligence and agentic AI capabilities enables systems to analyze data, detect anomalies, and trigger actions autonomously, driving faster, more adaptive decision-making across enterprise environments.
Key benefits of the Wind River and ServiceNow solution include:
- Automated activation of ServiceNow AI Platform applications
- Intelligent lifecycle management
- Sovereign control of data and infrastructure
- Real-time performance at the edge
- Unified infrastructure for enterprise workloads
IT/OT Convergence in Regulated Sectors
Customers in a regulated industry use the newly unified infrastructure to leverage ServiceNow applications for operations by integrating previously disparate IT and OT data streams at the intelligent edge. That advantage is particularly relevant for companies with strict regulatory and compliance requirements or with highly sensitive data or critical applications, Modhvadia suggested.
"These can include industries such as finance, health care (HIPAA), and government, where they must adhere to stringent data privacy and data sovereignty laws that necessitate full control over where data resides and how it is managed," he explained.
For example, when a robotic arm reported abnormal vibration (OT) and the ERP system flagged a pending maintenance task (IT), ServiceNow workflows automatically initiated an autonomous response, he detailed. That response paused the production line, dispatched a maintenance technician, and logged the event for regulatory reporting — all without manual intervention.
"By deploying the ServiceNow AI Platform on Wind River Cloud Platform within its own controlled environment, the company achieved sovereign control of data while converging IT and OT streams at the intelligent edge," he added.
